Happy 2018 – Day 179 – Yoga: A Tangible way to push past your limits

Today’s quote comes from the late, great Ayrton Senna, one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time. I came across this on the first page of a yoga textbook that I’d picked up. With this kind of opening sentiment, I knew it was a sure start!

“On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, ‘Okay, this is the limit.’ As soon as you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.”

This is an approach that you can take in any part of your life, but exercise provides one of the most tangible methods of putting these words into action. And none more than yoga.

Whether you’re a regular Yogi, attending your first class or following Tara Stiles from YouTube on the living room carpet; yoga offers visible, empowering results, immediately!

You stretch. And you reach your limits.
You feel that you just cannot go any further.

Then EXHALE. And suddenly, you do!
Shocked, you try again.

And EXHALE. And again – you inch forward!

This kind of visible, immediate action is so empowering. You’re basically giving the middle finger to the part of you brain that’s awash with can’ts and won’ts and aren’t able tos.

Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself! Click the ‘Eckhart Yoga’ video below and spend 3 and a half minutes proving to your brain, that your limits are actually much further away than it believes.

Namaste folks! xx
