Years ago, I took some guidance from Paul McKenna’s book, ‘Instant Confidence’ and attempted to create a positive movie in my head as a song played.
My song of choice was Fat Boy Slim, ‘Right here. Right now.’
As instructed, whenever this song played, I saw a series of events in my head: key achievements from the past, successes, happy memories, times when I was super confident. About half way through, this transitioned to things that I wanted to do – I watched them as if they’d already happened.
I’ve said before that I’ve always been skeptical when it comes to visualisation techniques. Whenever I attempt anything like this, my inner Yorkshire-woman raises her eyesbrows at me and shakes her head in disbelief. Are you serious?
But for whatever reason, this particular visualisation works a treat for me.
Maybe it’s because I am easily-influenced? A good piece of music can completely change my mood anyway, so adding a extra stimulus can only accentuate that.
It’s been nearly a decade since I first ‘directed’ this film, but still, whenever I hear the song, I am catapulted back to that amazing movie in my head. And I come away feeling great!
I don’t even need the song; I’ve practised so many times now that I can watch the movie whenever I like.
If you like listening to music, feeling great about yourself, I’d definitely recommend trying this! I’ll even let you steal my song….
