Yesterday, I heard this quote from Joe Rogan:
“Be the hero in your own movie.”
It was part of some mish-mash of morning motivation (trying saying that 5 times over!) and as cheesy as it is, it really appealed to me.
Look at your life right now, and ask yourself:
If my life was a movie and I was the hero… what would I do today? How would I act? Where would I go? What would I say?
In my head, I create a movie that’s a combination of Muriel’s Wedding, Stranger than Fiction, The Hunger Games, Napoleon Dynamite and the King’s Speech.
My central character – me – is plodding along through her mediocre life; working constantly at an unfulfilling, unrewarding job; spending every evenings laid on the sofa watching mindless crap on the telly. Basically, she’s in a life rut. Then one day, she goes to a Jiu Jitsu class, and finds a place where she begins to feel something that she hasn’t felt in a long time – alive. From there, she quits her job and strives each day to make better choices.
Next time I wake up with a less-than motivated attitude, I’m going to ask myself, “What would my hero do right now?” Hopefully, my hero will make better decisions that I will.
She might even save me from myself.
Are you already your own hero? Or do you need saving? What would your hero do right now after reading this? Thoughts welcome:
