I can’t remember where or when I heard or read this, but this activity is just the right amount of annoying, quirky and actually effective.
The idea is that you monitor how much you complain over the course of a day. Every time you catch yourself complaining, move your watch to the other hand.
I did say it was annoying.
Basically, this encourages you to actively pay attention to just how much something negative comes out of your mouth.
This can easily be adapted. If, for example, you rarely speak but often think negative thoughts, then maybe you need to move your watch (or bracelet/ring) whenever you think something negative. If your problem isn’t negativity but rather lack of attention, then maybe you focus on every time you realise you’ve been pulled into your thoughts.
Whatever works for you.
When Mr. G tells me that I’m always moaning, I get really defensive. Because I really don’t think that’s the case. Unfortunately, the Watch Test sided with him…. so clearly I have some work to do.
Would this work for you? Have you tried it already? Thoughts welcome:
