What’s ONE Habit That Would Really Move The Needle?

This is such an important question to ask yourself. Especially if you’re someone like me, who is prone to overcommitting and setting so many goals that it essentially sinks you. Even just asking myself this question feels uncomfortable for me. My inner-critic doesn’t understand why I’d attempt to prioritise one goal, instead of ten.
What’s wrong with you? Why are you being so pathetic? It feels limiting and restrictive.

But in fact, it’s the opposite. What’s limiting is setting yourself a list of unreachable goals, then beating yourself up daily because you didn’t meet them. I see that now.

Think about where you’d like to be in maybe a month, six months or a year, ask yourself this question:

“What’s just one habit, that if done consistently, would be an absolutely game-changer?”

Imagine that you were only allowed to keep one of your healthy habits for the next year. Which would you choose and why? What is it that you do that makes you feel so happy/relaxed/confident/inspired, that if you repeated it every day for a year, you’d be closer to where you wanted to be in a year’s time?

My own answer to this surprised me… because I thought it would be exercise. Maybe it would have been, for my past self.

For my present self though, it’s actually journalling.
It’s made such a difference to how I experience life on a daily basis. Allowing my inner-critic the space to vent has been incredibly cathartic and coaching the critic, like a loving parent to a child, has resulted in a shift that hard to describe. I almost daren’t say it… but I think, after 4 decades, I’m actually beginning to build some genuine, authentic confidence and self-esteem.

So, even if it meant I could do nothing else over the next year, I’d keep journalling. There’s not an ounce of doubt in me, when I say that if I journalled consistently over the next year, then by March 2025, I’d be significantly closer to the kind of life (and mindset) that I want to have.
