I’ve talked goals and resolutions before, and regular readers will know I’m not really a fan.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all about growth and progress, so you’d think goals would be my thing. But experience (and repeated failure) have taught me that setting some far-off point in the distance and telling myself to march on with willpower and determination, only leads to self-loathing and disappointment.
What I do like are ‘goal systems,’ in which you set up a way to feel an instant win each day.
Plus, I think it helps to simplify things.
This year, I’m thinking about what I want more and less of, before working out a way to achieve this goal daily or at least weekly.
I know, for example, that I want more quality time with Mr.G and less time spent watching TV. So I’m implementing a rule whereby TV is banned on Wednesday night – ‘Date night’ – as well as agreeing on 2 nights per week when we can make dinner together, despite conflicting schedules.
See? It doesn’t have to be a whole thing.
Just decide what you’d like more or less of in 2019, and find a way to make it happen as often as possible.
